“English Partridge flying over rape seed. This painting is so special to me as it’s the first that I have done on canvas with such a bold background. I never tend to do a background as such with my work due to the effect of the feather skipping across the surface to create the energetic splashes. The inspiration came when I was on my way to the studio one day and this beautiful covey of wild partridge flew right up next to me by the car with the vivid yellow of the field behind them. I wanted to try and create the colour and excitement in this picture.”
