30×30cms canvas
I have always enjoyed the strong contrast of the great spotted woodpecker's black and white plumage, with its distinctive flash of red. In this painting, I have used subtle splashes of colour to give the bird presence against the neutral linen background.
The composition is simple, drawing attention to the detail of the feathers and the bird's alert posture.
Painted in my signature style, this is an original work, created as a one-of-a-kind piece and never to be reproduced as a print.
